You may be hearing a lot about Personal Branding as of late. The reason is because of its importance in today’s age of sharing and storytelling. Did you know that 86% of consumers stated that using a search engine allowed them to learn something new or important that helped him/her increase his/her knowledge? (Pew Research Center, Search Engine Use 2012). That “something new or important” is the personal element; the story or background behind the product/service or organisation.
We are surrounded by easy-to-use online tools and in business we should all know about each one and its impact on our business. Social media is but just one example and allows us all to engage with our audience and educate them on our product/service. It is a useful tool to promote your brand’s message, but consumers think of brands as an intangible product or service.
What personal branding in turn, is how we use certain techniques (and not just social media) to engage with our audience on a more personal level. As human beings we like to hear about the background of business, the people behind it and the story it shares.
So when you may think of who you should approach about creating a personal brand you will probably think of your marketing agency. They will tell you how best to use social media platforms to promote your personal brand. Personal branding can be classed as being a part of an overall marketing strategy but it is a lot more than that. You need to know that there are other aspects of creating and managing your own personal brand. To create a PB, there is a lot more than just social media knowledge. Social media is an important feature of personal branding and because of its accessibility and wide audience reach but it’s not the only feature.
It is time to start thinking about how to incorporate it with your overall organisational strategy. Personal branding will help your business to push through the noise from all the other online tools. It will help you and your business stand out from your competitors and enable your message to be heard and seen by your audience.
Remember; personal brand is about you, your business, your story, your reputation. We are living in an age of storytelling. Your story consists of elements of yourself that perhaps you had forgotten about; your uniqueness.
My uniqueness is that I have researched not only the marketing and communication elements of personal branding, but also the strategic ways you can manage your brand to bring your business to a higher level of engagement online. Your WOW factor. This method will not be shown by any other agency. My WOW factor is shown through my research for a Master Degree from UCC.
I learned from my research is that personal branding doesn’t have to stop at you if you’re in business with others. Personal branding techniques benefit all within an organisation as a motivational tool. In essence it incorporates managerial ideas to create a complete organisational strategy.
The workshops I provide are unique. They are tailor-made for each client as everyone has a different mission or goal, background and ideas. Unique ideas for unique people.
These are the areas of personal branding that you won’t get from your marketing guy or from spending a lot of money on a personal branding programme based on ONLY social media.
To learn more about my research on how personal branding can help your business promote its uniqueness while developing your team motivation, an informational session will be held in early August.
